Where I've Been

Sometimes living life has to take priority over writing about it. And sometimes being my husband’s helper has to take priority over talking about being a good wife. As I’ve mentioned before, my husband recently started a business. That by the way is the post that got the record holding Awesomest Flame Comment Ever, in which I was reprimanded, not only for the sins of the Duggars, but also for not taking the “time to become educated and establish a career” so I could live in a “spacious house” rather than a trailer (???) but I digress. Anyway, Mr. P is doing design work for medical device start-ups, and while I am no help at all when it comes to engineering, he realized that he had a job for which I was perfectly suited.

He needed a nerd.

He wanted someone to monitor FDA device recalls and automatic class III (de novo) decisions. And who better to tackle a whole slew of government regulations, decisions, and acronyms (let’s not forget the acronyms!) than somebody with a linguistics degree from Stanford? (Good thing I took the time to become educated–maybe someday it’ll pay off and I’ll get to live in a spacious house). And so, I’ve been here at CDRH Learn, the online source for FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health’s Continuing Education Courses. (Lesson 1 for the perpetual linguist: the Food and Drug Administration refers to itself as “FDA,” NOT “the FDA,” like it’s a personal name, as in, “Be sure to notify FDA.” Trippy.) At first, I said that I’d give up my lame social media time to devote to these scintillating (heh) videos, but then I discovered that I usually only resort to Facebook when my brain is mush and my eyes are burning–not the best time to really focus on the requirements for 513(g) submissions or deep questions about what to do when a 510(k) is found to be “NSE,” for example. So that meant that I had to devote my non-mushy-brained computer time to CDRH, which left little time for blogging.

I miss you all (even the flamers in their own special way), and I sincerely hope to get more blogging done soon once I get all up to speed on PMA’s, IDE’s, and MDR (that last one’s not plural–aren’t you glad you know?). In the mean time, if any of you miss me, you can just pop over to CDRH Learn and have a look at 21 CFR Part 820, or something else similarly interesting.

Blessings, friends! I hope to be back in not too, too long.

  • Oh, now I’ve got to look up the flamers. You can always read my mind, kiddo. I’m thinking, “Now.. I know she probably didn’t die.. but…” I am glad you can serve your husband in this special way. He is brilliant (Will said so, not me) and he will one day have a bunch of people employed under him. You will live in a spacious home and not a trailer, and you’ll look back on this time and laugh. In the meantime, we can all work for him (kids and all) if you just settle a little closer to this area. Hugs and happy acronyms.

So that’s where you’ve been! I’m just enough of a nerd to have the “ooo, I bet she’s awesome at that, and it sounds kind of interesting” thought. Also this: “I miss you all (even the flamers in their own special way)” made me laugh.

Hope you and FDA are having fun. :)

  • That’s it. I’m officially retiring from instigator and now becoming a pursuingtitus2.com flamer. Actually sounds like a dazzling blog commenter career move.

I even think I’ll start a forum for all of us to hang out and conspire against your posts with our witty expose of your obvious blogging insolence.

No really. Good job Mrs. P, glad you are mulling over the mundane and truly helping Mr. P with a most difficult task.

On another note, I’m glad your flamer brought out the real purpose in life. Educations and spacious dwellings and all aside, I knew I was missing something!

Thanks for giving us all an update. I figured you were busy with real life, but it’s nice to know the details. I know your husband is appreciating all you do for him, and I, for one, will still be faithfully following your blog and happy to read more of your insight and compassion when you have time to blog again.

  • I’ve missed you. But really, how can we compete with federal jargon and acronyms? :-)

PS – We live in a trailer… it even has a hitch. But somehow the children, chickens, goats, dogs, cats, and general noise keep the flamers away from my college degree. ;-)

I had to go and read the comment aswell. I have a feeling this person has been on the “lovejoyfeminism” blog. There are some interesting posts (about the patriarchal schism and Pearl family to which I dont agree) but the rest are about abortion, LBGT rights and atheism. Which are just wrong. Anyways I think the comment that came after the flaming post was perfect. Heaping hot coals.

Good to hear you and hubby can work together, I think its wonderful to be my husband’s helpmeet in all things even in work.

  • Yey for living in tiny spaces!! For the record, some of the most educated people are actually deciding to live tiny for ecological reasons. From a secular point of view, who cares where you live as long as you’re happy? From a spiritual point of view, who cares where you live as long as you are wholeheartedly serving the Lord?

Yey for linguistics degrees and nerdiness!! <3

  • HA! I had to go back and read the comment you mentioned – what a hoot! Anyone who has been in blogland long enough has had to meet those commenters/lurkers/flamers before. It is always best to laugh them off and realize they have no idea what God can do our lives when we get off of our diplomas and seek His wisdom.

    Enjoy your acrynoms!

  • Hahaha! Well, I’m ahead of you, because we kind of live in a spacious trailer!!! :o ))) Honestly, those comments never stop being funny.

Good for you for helping out. It sounds rather mind-boggling. Reminds me of when Alan started a little private practice at a local nursing home and decided I’d be the perfect secretary, surrogate nurse, accountant and billing agent. Figuring out Medicare, Medicaid, BC/BS and the rest of the insurance world just about put me under (as I was also homeschooling our brood). Retrospectively, it was a good growing experience. I hope it works out okay for you!
