James 3...OUCH

I’m embarrassed to tell you how accurate this is. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ¬†Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. ¬†Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. –James 3:8-10

Ooh, I’ve seen this video before. Ack. It made me cry. It’s a good thing God loves us and is patient with us and is faithful to change us!!!

  • OH, It made me want to cry. Tell me everybody doesn’t do this? I was waiting for God to help the little family, and they just faked it. They just faked it…

  • I found this really quite chilling…it could be because we only have a very young baby and we live only a short walk from our church that Sunday mornings are not like this in our family…but I can totally see myself in that woman’s reflection at so many other times…

    I shall consider myself chastised.

Thank you for posting this :-)

  • Jena,

I don’t think there are very many people who are like this ALL the time, but I think most of us would be lying if we said this hasn’t happened once or twice, or even more. We all live in our rotting, evil, sinful flesh. The movie shows the wickedness of giving into it in gruesome starkness. I wouldn’t say that this family was “faking” any more than any one else is faking who fails in the James 3 kind of way: we curse men, and then we praise God. “Brethren, these things ought not to be.”

  • This video goes along the same explanation I have heard repeatedly as to why so many kids walk away from church when they get older – it was never real at home anyway. Meaning ‘if Christ-like behaviour is only for inside the walls of a church, why bother with it?’

I certainly agree with your response to Jena, it does happen in every family, BUT it is part of the iniquity we need to remove from our hearts…for Christ’s sake.

  • Kim,

Absolutey! That’s why I posted the film in the first place. If we love the Lord, the vision this gives is horrifyinging, ugly, and sickeningly convicting, hence the title “OUCH.” We MUST not tollerate this kind of behavior. And in case we’re tempted to dismiss it, we can think of the look on the littlest girl’s face while her family praised the Lord.

Oh, that was powerful! Definitely an OUCH moment!

  • I really like Kim’s post on this and “being real at home” that convicts me. The video not so much but her words did it for me.
