C'mon! You Know You Want To.

Here’s a fun little piece that goes right along with something I’ve thought for a long time: Christians are basically all the same. You know those evil tendencies we like to condemn the other Christian groups for? Our group’s got ‘em, too. We’re all plagued by our flesh. We’re all fighting the Romans 7 battle. I’ve talked before about how people who are more conservative than we are don’t actually have the corner on judgment and condemnation. And in a similar vein, Become a Legalistic Christian in Three Easy Steps! shows how they don’t have the corner on legalism either.

Most people think it’s really hard to be a legalist. They think that being a legalist means attending a King James Only church, wearing a suit and tie or a frumpy dress all day, sporting a crew cut, and complaining about how irresponsible all the “kids” are these days. But I say, “Why go to all that trouble?” You can be a legalist without having to do anything hard!

Here’s the secret. Being a legalist is about putting law above Lawgiver. It’s much easier than the alternative. Why bother pressing on to know Jesus Christ, letting his gospel transform the way you look at the world, and eagerly obeying his commandments out of love? Just become a legalist instead! In fact, you don’t even need God’s law to be one. Here’s a tried-and-true method to help you.

Click on over to discover new depths of self-righteousness with your own personal legalism options!

I love it! Thanks for sharing!

  • Oh, he is funny! Thanks for the good stuff. I think it’s interesting that all of the blogs you regularly read are so different from my regulars. I’m always blessed by clicking on your list, but I’m usually inundated by high brow thoughts rather quickly! You are my fave high brow blogger.

  • Haha, love it. Guilty, guilty, guilty! I think it’s important that he pointed out that the standards legalists (and I’ve been one and I’m sure will be again despite my best efforts) pick are *arbitrary.* Christians should have one standard that guides their lives: God’s Word! And that is certainly not arbitrary. :)
